Feeling Mediterranean

Let me confess you something: I've always despise my origins. It might sound silly, but it's the truth. I used to be happy only when abroad. I always felt I didn't fit here -I am an anglophile to the nth degree-. But when I started writing this blog, and since most of the readers (OK, I am just guessing) are not Spanish, I am identifying more and more with the place I come from. Whether I want or not, my personality is highly influenced by the idiosyncrasy of the society that surrounds me. Therefore my style.

After this digression, I am forced to say everything started when I watched "The talented Mr.Ripley". In the film, it is insinuated that the Mediterranean way of life is better than the Anglo-Saxon one. And that's why I started debating with myself and my principles. Anyway, I recommend the film, the costumes are great.

Song: Tu vuo' fa L'Americano ( I couldn't find a better version)

I think most people go through that phase on some occasion. I've wanted to be british, french and spanish an god knows. But ultimately you are who you are. And now, the world being so global, one can experience and be a part of many cultures.

But, when we live out off our place, we learn to do the right value to our origins!!

I know what you mean about the skinny jeans!! I don't care if it's wide leg this and wide leg that, skinnys will always be the coolest and dressiest jeans.

I am the same as you with not fitting in with your native country. I have always said I want to move to another country and I probably will. I am beginning to appreciate Ireland a tiny bit more then I used to, though.

I have not seen that movie, but I want to, the costumes do look great.

I think that everyone comes back to his origin country, at last or at least once. I feel not nacionalism ( i live in spain) but i suposse that will be different if i live abroad...

Great wardrobe at Mr. Ripley!

I am much older than most of the fashion blog writers I read, but I read your site because you write well, have a good eye, an open mind and because you're IN Spain.

Never doubt your individual identity.

le portillon: I can't believe you wanted to be Spanish ;)

Leslie: Thank you for the flowers. I always think my posts have tons of mistakes.

Man, I love that film so much, its possibly one of my favourites. Matt Damon is fantastic.

And I love this song playing from it too. Though my funny valentine is fantastic purely for its eeriness in the film.

Ooh, I want to watch it again now!

they 're so many of us trying to expand our origins and in the first place we usually underestimate our own. but then i think you grow up and start compromising searching self-pleasure through the eyes of the others. (oops! i'm talking to myself again :S) anw love the song too and the cosy bar where it is filmed.

i can feel indentify with u! but since i live in the uk in some way i miss my origins, and i miss my country... since them i enjoy any single weekend I can move to madrid or barcelona or galicia...

but what I´m sure of: it´s that I´m not the kind of mediterranean girl, i´m more from the north of spain... and then spanish way of life with those eternal afternoon and those eternal nights (with no evening between) seems to me too long to resist. but the secret of mediterranean life (apart from food, character...) is the amounts of time they have to take a break, rest or sleep and chat...

Lluvia: I'm from the north too, I live in Asturias. I mentioned the Mediterranean, because the film takes place there.
