Girls with Allure: Cecilie

Cecilie is 18 and lives in Copenhagen where she works for APC. Her style is very feminine and colourful, and as she states "pretty classic and simple, I almost never wear prints."

Cecilie tiene 18 años y vive en Copenhage donde trabaja como dependienta para APC. Su estilo es muy femenino y colorista, y como ella misma reconoce "bastante clásico y simple, casi nunca llevo estampados."

1.-When and why did you become interested in fashion?

I have always done a lot of drawing and painting and I guess my "interest in fashion" started when I was about ten years old and started "designing" clothes with my friend. I still have all the sketches and considering our age we actually did some pretty cool stuff.

1.-¿Cuando y por qué empezaste a interesarte por la moda?

Siempre he dibujado y pintado mucho así que supongo que mi "interés por la moda" comenzó cuando tenía unos 10 años y empecé a "diseñar" ropa con un amigo. Todavía conservo los bocetos y teniendo en cuenta nuestra edad, hicimos cosas bastante buenas.

2.-Who/what influences your style the most?

Movies for sure. I have a few which I watch quite often just because of all the beautiful clothes! Otherwise just people in general, often musicians.

2.-¿Qué o quién influencia más tu estilo?

El cine por supuesto. Tengo unas cuantas películas que veo a menudo ¡sólo por el vestuario! De otra manera, la gente en general me influye, y en particular músicos.

3.-You'd never be caught in...

Alexander Wang. He makes beautiful clothes but it just doesn't fit my personality or bodytype.

Alexander Wang. Hace ropa bonita pero no encaja con mi personalidad y constitución.

4.-You can't live without...

Cotton, silk and cashmere. I never ever wear synthetic materials!

The ones I dream of wearing: Chloé, Sonia Rykiel, Marc Jacobs. The ones I can afford wearing: APC (Jean Touitou), Filippa K, Margaret Howell.

8.-A book, a film and a song.

Book: The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. It's not my favorite but I always think of thousands of different outfits for Teresa (one of the main characters) to wear while reading. I just cant help it.

Film: Annie Hall. I saw it last night... Again! Diane Keaton is absolutely stunning.

Song: Luka by Suzanne Vega. Suzanne Vega was a very important part of my teenage years and I remember seeing the music video when I was 13 and suddenly feeling like wearing hats and high wasted pants. So I did.

8.-Un libro, una película y una canción.

Libro: La insoportable levedad del ser de Milan Kundera. No es mi libro favorito pero siempre pienso en miles de looks distintos para Teresa (uno de los personajes principales). No puedo evitarlo.

Película: Annie Hall. La vi anoche ...¡otra vez! Diane Keaton está absolutamente espectacular.

Canción: Luka de Suzanne Vega. Suzanne Vega fue una parte muy importante de mi adolescencia y recuerdo como con 13 años me entraban ganas de ponerme sombreros y pantalones de talle alto al ver sus vídeos. Y lo hice.

9.-What are your wardrobe staples?

Striped shirts and skirts. And a nice pair of black brogues.

9.-¿Cuáles son los básicos de tu armario?

Camisetas de rayas y faldas. Y un buen par de brogues en negro.

10.-What does style means to you?

I think there is like two ways to look at style and fashion in general : as an art-form or as craftsmanship.

I think you should always try to think of it as both whether you're designing, writing about fashion, shopping or just trying to put together and outfit in front of the mirror in the morning.

I mean, you can wear or design the most beautiful dress in the world but if it is not well made or in good materials it will just look terrible.

10.-¿Qué signifíca para tí la palabra estilo?

Creo que hay dos maneras de ver el estilo y la moda en general: como una forma de arte o como artesanía.

Siempre se debe tratar de pensar en ello tanto si estás diseñando, como escribiendo sobre moda, comprando o simplemente intentando escoger un conjunto por la mañana enfrente del espejo. Quiero decir, que uno puede llevar o diseñar el vestido más bonito del mundo pero si no está bien hecho o si no se han utilizado buenos materiales, parecerá un desastre.

Margaret Howell

Margaret Howell started making men shirts and due to their great sucess, she opened her own shop in London in 1977. During the 80s she developed a women line that became very popular within the Japanese market. Her philosophy still remains the same since then: quality is the priority, that is why she uses rich fabrics such as tweed or poplin. Her designs are characterized by timeless, classic tailored cuts giving her garments an investment status.

Margaret Howell comenzó haciendo camisas de hombre y como consecuencia de su gran éxito, abrió su propia tienda en Londres en 1977. Durante los años 80 desarrolló su línea de ropa femenina que obtuvo gran aceptación en el mercado nipón. Su filosofía se mantiene desde entonces: la calidad es su prioridad y para ello se surte de ricos tejidos como el tweed o la popelina. Sus diseños se caracterizan por el corte clásico y atemporal, confiriendo a sus prendas el status de inversión.

It is possible that many of you relate Corinne Day with Kate Moss almost inmediately. However, the truth is that this English photographer had -and still has- and important role in fashion photography, especially since she defined a big part of the grunge aesthetic of the 90's.

Es posible que muchos de vosotros relacioneis de forma casi inmediata a Corinne Day con Kate Moss. Pero lo cierto es que ésta fotógrafa de origen inglés ha jugado -y sigue jugando- un papel muy importante en la fotografía de moda, sobre todo porque definió en gran parte la estética grunge de la década de los 90.

Her work during that period of time, strongly marked by her self taught status, pictured mundane scenes achieving a cozy and warm atmosphere. And for me that's her greatest contribution. All this was just an excuse to show you these two magnificent pictures that I can't stop looking at.

Su trabajo durante esa época, muy marcado por su condición de autodidacta, retrataba escenas cotidianas consiguiendo de ésta manera transmitir mucha cercanía y calidez. Y para mi esa es su gran aportación. Todo ésto para encontrar una excusa con la que poder mostraros éstas dos magníficas fotografías que no puedo dejar de mirar.

Anouck Lepère

Very occasionally appears in the strange and, sadly, homogeneous modelling world a girl capable of standing out from the crowd thanks to a peculiarity. For Anouck Lepère they were her thick eyebrows ,which won her many contracts. According to some her career began when her friends Dries Van Noten and Olivier Theyskens's persuaded her to try her luck in the fashion world.

Muy de vez en cuando aparece en el extraño y, por desgracia, homogéneo mundo de las modelos una chica que sobresale del rebaño gracias a alguna peculiaridad. En el caso de Anouck Lepère fueron sus cejas pobladas las que le hicieron ganar muchos contratos. Según dicen algunos su carrera comenzó cuando sus amigos Dries Van Noten y Olivier Theyskens la convicieron de que debía probar suerte en el mundo de la moda.

But more surprising is that the Belgian continues on the catwalk in her thirties when the average retirement age of a model is at 25. I don't know for sure what her secret is, however I am certain a strong personality and an impeccable style help.

Pero lo más sorprendente del caso es que esta treintañera belga siga desfilando cuando la edad media de jubilación de una modelo se sitúa en los 25. No sé a ciencia cierta cuál es su secreto, pero estoy segura que una personalidad fuerte y su estilo impecable ayudan.

Tanya is the avid collector behind the shop who happens to have a natural eye for snatching great pieces from designers like: Margiela, Acne, Hussein Chalayan, Prada, D&G, Dries Van Noten and many more. The list is endless. Let's say it's a kind of Yoox but with better prices. Another good point is the constant update inventory. The only thing that I don't like is that you can only pay by bank transfer (unless you live in Berlin, in that case you can pay in cash).

LBD revisited

My latest acquisition: a T by Alexander Wang dress. Or rather a blank canvas with endless possibilities. It's versatility fits with most of my wardrobe. Furthermore, it has the advantage that it can be dress down during the day or it can make the transition to night adding a good pair of heels. What else can you ask for?

Mi última adquisición: un vestido de T by Alexander Wang. O más bien un lienzo en blanco sobre el que poder realizar infinitas variaciones. Su versatilidad lo hace encajar a la perfección con la mayoría de prendas de mi armario. Y además tiene la ventaja de que puede llevarse de forma casual durante el día o hacer la transición hacia la noche añadiendo unos buenos tacones. ¿Qué más se puede pedir?

Norman Parkison is probably one of the most influential photographers of the twentieth century because, among other things, he took the models out of the cold studio which -at that time- was a revolution. And thanks to that he gave us magnificent pictures like the ones above.

Norman Parkinson es probablemente uno de los fotógrafos de moda más influyentes del siglo XX ya que, entre otras cosas, consiguió sacar a las modelos del frío estudio hacia el exterior lo que en su momento supuso una revolución. Y gracias a eso nos regaló magníficas fotos como las que podeís ver arriba.

Back from London with the feeling that time flied. I guess that's good because it means I had a great time, either way I can't help but feel nostalgic. Visiting London is always liberating at all levels, I manage to abstract from all the trials and tribulations of the daily routine and therefore the return is always hard. But I still have its effect with me, I view everything from a different light ... it is hard to explain but it feels so good.

De vuelta de Londres y con la sensación de que el tiempo a transcurrido a velocidad de vértigo. Supongo que eso es bueno porque significa que me lo he pasado bien, pero aún y así no puedo evitar sentir nostalgia. Visitar Londres siempre es una liberación a todos los niveles que me consigue abstraer de todos los problemas y tribulaciones de la rutina diaria y, por tanto, el regreso siempre es duro. De cualquier modo aún tengo su efecto conmigo, todo se ve desde un prisma diferente ...es díficil de explicar pero me siento muy bien.
