Knock, knock, knocking on summer's door

It's time to buy a bathing suit. And this year, instead of bikini, I am going to buy a swimsuit, and I have to decide between two options:

American Apparel

Or these pin-up inspired swimsuit, custom made by Esther Williams. She also makes other styles and colours. You can buy them at Retrodress

Imagine yourself with that bathing suit paired with a silk turban lying on a beach...

Dita Von Teese would be proud.

"Bombonera"

This kind of bags were very popular in the 80's. Someone must have decided they'd better come back. Their main characteristic is the draw string fastening at the top of the bag.
And it seems this trend has already hit the streets .

She even included a similar bag in her collection for TopShop

Birds of the same feather...

I find feather clips very chic. A final touch, to your next "going out" outfit.

World book day

April 23th, 1616, died Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Garcilaso de la Vega. To commemorate it, the UNESCO named this day the world book day. Here, we have the tradition of giving a book and a rose.

My choice, was Wuthering Heights of Emily Brönte.

Normally this blog is about fashion, but today, I want to do an exception.

Is nude the new black?

In my opinion Isabel Marant is one of the most talented young designers out there. Some, may say she works for a "mass market", but I think her designs are effortlessly cool.

I was astonished by the beauty of this 20's inspired dress. I love the silkiness feel, and the black tie belt complement the dress so well.
What do you think about the colour? I like it, however is nude really a big trend? the new basic? I hardly see it on the streets.

Look at the stitch detail around the neck; so pretty!

I already have a t-shirt with "Panic" lyrics. And Morrissey wore it...

Essential accessories for a woman's wardrobe

Somebody once said the best part of an outfit must be the shoes or the bag. You may disagree, but it is true that they have the ability of renewing a whole look. My essential pieces are:

A pair of black pumps. I prefer pointed toe shoes because they elongate the legs.

The holy trinity of shoes: sandals in black, silver and gold.

A pair of black boots. I prefer ankle boots to knee-length boots, because they give the outfit a tough and quirky touch. But it's up to you.

Black ballerinas. Perfect for everyday wear, they are so comfortable, you won't want to take them off.

A black leather bag. Big enough to contain every unnecessary thing you want. My favourite is the Balenciaga "City".

Jackie O' and aviator sunglasses. They will never go out of fashion.

Brown bag. I prefer them with distressed leather because they last longer. Mulberry bags are a must.

Essential pieces for a woman's wardrobe

One of my resolutions for this year is to purchase good basics. The key is to find cloths of the best quality shaped in classic cuts. In this case, I better avoid temporary trends, because I need garments that pass the test of time.

LBD.- We should be eternally grateful to Coco Chanel for things like this.

White poplin shirt. I need something original, my choice is Dior Homme.

Black coat. I regard this as an investment. A good coat can last ages.

Jeans. The range is endless, but this time I'll give A.P.C. a try.
Trench. It must be Burberry.

White tees. In every possible cut. My favourites are from: The Row, Mark and Estel, and Etoile Isabel Marant.

A black suit. Considering I'm still pretty young for a suit, I have to wait some time before buying it.
Cashmere cardigans. They are so warm and comfortable, I would never take them of.

Black skirt. A black high-waisted skirt is my choice, but if you want a classic cut, go for a pencil skirt.

Finally, I couldn't resist adding a striped t-shirt. It's not a basic piece, but it ages very well.

The Substitute

I think I never mentioned in here before that I am against fur trade. I don't like when people wear it, I find it completely unnecessary and cruel.
But I must confess I love the "rock-chic" effect of leather jackets.
So, what is first: integrity or fashion? Well I don't know about you, but in my case, integrity always wins the battle. And I never wear fur.
The purpose of this moral digression (a bit boring, I know) is to tell that I find a solution to my problem. The substitute is the Proenza Schouler jacket Kirsten is wearing. The same effect without being a savage.
"Heifer whines could be human cries
Closer comes the screaming knife
This beautiful creature must die
This beautiful creature must die
A death for no reason
And death for no reason is MURDER"
"Meat is murder" The Smiths.

Antique jewellery

When I saw Marie Antoinette, two things captivated my attention: a pair of purple Converse (I was the only one who saw them in the whole cinema) and the jewellery. Especially a pair of earrings Kirsten wore at the end of the film. Since then, I have been looking for something similar, and I find it.

Which pair do you prefer? My favourite is the second one.

The most beautiful bag in the world

I love doctor bags. They are roomy, and the kiss clasp is simple irresistible.
This one is Balenciaga, it's name is Partition. I dare say it won't be the "It" bag of next season. I might be wrong, but celebrities don't like this kind of bags. Beyond perfect!
I am pretty sure, I won't collect all the money I need to buy it, but I will try to find something similar in vintage stores.
Update: there are two sizes, the small one is 1275 euro and the large one is 1375 euro. The leather is the same one as in the motorcycle line.

Kate Moss for Topshop

As we all know Kate Moss didn't draw the collection, but she took some pieces from her wardrobe to inspire the designers. What follows are similarities I found out.
