¡Qué manía!

mania mania
After gold's long reign it seems oversized semi-precious stones are taking its place in jewellery. ManiaMania's new collection follows this line. As the designers Melanie Kamsler and Tamila Purivs explain, these pieces are inspired by David Bowie and his fascination for the ancient Egypt. Black tourmalines and turquoises are set in bronze or silver, giving the jewels a primitive and even mystical air.

Lillian Bassman

Bassman_TheWondersofWater

There is always been a debate about whether fashion photography should concentrate on picturing the clothes or whether it should be creative and arty. Amid this controversy is the figure of Lillian Bassman, who have always stated through her work the desire of going a step further. Perhaps her past as a fashion illustrator prompted her to manipulate her pictures -first in the darkroom, now with Photoshop- providing her subjects with power and mistery. Truth is that thanks to these techniques she has achieved a unique style and still receives homages at 93.

Bassman

Favoritisimos: Chanel 2.55

chanel 2.55

My Chanel 2.55. Such a classic. It was named, as you probably already know, after the date it was created: February 1955. Coco sougth to create a versatile bag that gave women freedom of movement. Success has followed this purse since its birth and due to its timelessness it has become an -obscure- object of desire.

Song of the week: Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again

New section. It's a pretty easy concept: a week, a song, an obsession that sounds in my i-pod nonstop. This week is the turn of Cat Power's cover of "Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again" by Dylan.

Marc Riboud

marc riboudhq5
Marc Riboud is the author of some of the most famous photographs in history. The key to success is sometimes diffuse, but it clearly requires a grasp of technique and a lot of talent. Moreover, Riboud has an innate ability to capture the essence of his time in two dimensions. The best part of his pictures is, in my humble opinion, the way they clearly trasmit a message waking up consciences.

Gillian Tennant

Gillian Tennant - Spring/ Summer Collection

Australian fashion has taken the industry by storm. Brands such as Ellery or Ksubi elbowed their way into a bunch of established houses and some other aspiring ones. They have conquered the antipodes with their easy prét-a-porter, shocking both insiders and outsiders.

Gillian Tennant - Spring/ Summer Collection

Gillian Tennant is no exception. Her timeless and wearable clothes are able to delight almost any woman. In general this is a femenine and flirty collection, filled with light dresses and skirts. Maybe it is not suitable for cold winters but don't forget summer is always around the corner.

John Darwell

john darwell-Tug-boat

John Darwell is an English photojournalist who, at the very start of his career, specialized in capturing the changes our society has been undergoing in the last decades. He began photographing the transformations suffered by the industry in his country and then continue exploring enviromental and mental health issues. His direct vision doesn't forget the artistic side. In fact that's where the strenght of his photography lies; first you love the aesthetic and then it's its meaning what draws you to his pictures.

Mimamantrana

mimamantrana 2

Some weeks ago at the LABshop I found, hidden behind a desk, Aia Mimamantrana's designer. Her clothes were like an island in the middle of a headwear and handmade brooches ocean. Her garments stand out for its simplicity and endless elegance. I approached her to discover what was behind her brand and that's how I found out the idea of Mimamantrana came up when Aia was studying Arts. "Some years ago, I was preparing a project in which I had to use the sewing machine. Little by little and self-taught, I begin to design and make clothes for myself" claims the designer.

mimamantrana4

Everything was born out of necessity "I couldn't find clothes I liked in the market or if I found them, I couldn't afford them." Mimantrana intends to create "unique and one-of-a-kind pieces, with pure and minimalistic lines, and a timeless and feminine style." The name is a homage to her grandma, Carmen Mantrana, "the typical dressmaker who did custom made clothes."

mimamantrana

The future is uncertain by nature, "short term my aim is to keep working in this project because I love this job. Is hard to bring it forward but very rewarding when you achieve what you were looking for."

Drew Innis

Drew Innis 4

If someone offered me a job to style a fashion editorial and I had the chance to choose a photographer that would possibly be Drew Innis. Both things are highly improbable, but I am speaking hypothetically. I feel I am talking nonsense (?) Anyway, Drew has a innate ability to tell stories through his images and that's something not many people can say. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that he is also a filmmaker. Ah well, a gem that deserves to be studied carefully.

Drew Innis2
