"You've got a head full of feathers/You got melted to butter"

o·ver·ex·po·sure
–noun
1.
excessive exposure, esp. of photographic film or a sensitized plate to light rays.
2.
the condition of having been seen, heard, or advertised so frequently or for so long that freshness or appeal is diminished.

If I had to define Sex and the City with just one word it would be overexposure. I guess I can call myself a fan of the series, but I am sick of all the paraphernalia around it. I watched the film, and it's not that good. It lacks irony and cynicism, and they eventually gave us a predictable end: Carrie and Mr. Big getting married. A pure cliché.

What I like least, is the way of commercializing the whole concept. There's already a book about the movie, and Patricia Field is selling in her web: bags, socks, dresses and belts ala Carrie at exorbitant prices.

"I love you but enough is enough. "

Just my two cents ... and a little bit more ...

I enjoyed the movie because it was nice to see the characters again, but the plot left alot to be desired, especially, as you point out, after all of the hype leading up to its release.

It would have been better if Big and Carrie continued to live together without deciding to marry but only if the story line avoided the big break up. It would have been pathetic if she returned to him and then didn't get married. They could have grown as a couple and as individuals in much smarter and wittier ways over the course of two hours!

What was best about Charlotte's storyline in the original series was that she wanted the fairy tale, and found - like most people - that she had to adjust her expections in order to get it. It would have been better if she had not had a biological baby.

And, Smith and Samantha should have had at least a conversation of some depth before breaking up! He was so supportive a guy in the series. I can't imagine he would have been so clueless about Samatha's disatisfaction, or that as a couple they couldn't have both found a way to make it work.

At least the Miranda and Steve story line made sense and showed some growth of character.

And a few mishaps - from my perspective.

Carrie would have known you can rent designer hand bags.

And she would not have had to go out and buy Vogue Magazine to see her spread. She would have had a subscription and it would have been delivered to her house!

What strange irony...I read this comment just as I was finishing an old episode of sex and the city. I completely agree... the movie was a disappointment. Nothing truly fresh or new was offered. Kind of a disappointment. But what else can we really expect from Hollywood? Still, I refuse to let the movie diminish my love for the series. It is my guilty pleasure and I don't intend to let the questionable nature of the movie tarnish that.

I have to say, I thought that they did a fantastic job with the movie and that they didn't conform to the whole fairytale cliche.

Even if Big and Carrie got married in the end, it all stayed true to the nature of SATC as the series, and showed that everything can't always be perfect.

I loved that the strength of the friendships was still there. Charlotte screaming at Big by the limo, and the loyalty was lovely.

I know what you're saying about the hype, but I don't think it could be helped.

actually i loved the movie. i dont think it used the cliches you're talking about. it remained consistent to the general frame of the series + i adore this belt!!!!

It was cliched but I didn't mind that so much... in fact, I expected it to be more hammy than it turned out to be....

The commercialization of things I would normally like fills me with distaste. I have no desire to pay the ticket price for the SATC movie and less desire to spend too much on a belt that is nice, but everyone has...

Maybe this is why Patricia Field used the belt in practically every scene. but I think I read somewhere Sarah Jessica Parker loved it so much she named it.

The belts is very gothic. Paula

I actually loved the movie. We all knew that Carrie and Big were going to end up together, the movie did a great job of showing how it happened. I doubt many watch it for the ending, they watched it for the "how". The belt is really cute too.

I think I must be the only person who still have not seen the film. Like you said, the hype put me off, plus I'm not that huge a fan of the serie and can endure the wait for the DVD...

I'm really embarrassed to say that I haven't seen the movie... I will for sure know it by the weekend! I love the series a lot and have seen so many their movie outfits, but my work has been seriously busy recently and I will just have to catch up xx

In some ways I agree. it was a good over two hours well spent on the whole but some of it was a bit below par.

Charlotte had to carry alot of the humour whereas miranda wasn't very funny at all, i felt, which was a shame as she is excellent in the series.

I think the worst part of it was that the male characters were so lack lustre. I know it's about the woment but still they had very little lines and were just lacking in any dimension that was present in the series.

Don't get me wrong i did enjoy it and wasn't disappointed but I understand what you mean.

I loved the movie and the belt I cant lie! I think Carrie and Big had to end up together because
1. I think everyone who went to see it knew that it was inevitable
2. If they didnt get together that would have left it open for a sequel and the had enough trouble getting Kim Catrall to do this movie!!

haha i just love how everytime i come on here, radiohead is playing. it makes my day brighter. tbh- id be a bit embarrassed to wear something labeled carrie belt.. but i guess it's just the corporation trying to make the most money out of the release of the movie.
