A few days ago, I found this pic on Face Hunter. It caught my eye immediately and inspired me to do a post about "New Look".
Christian Dior showed his first collection, called "Carolle Line"(aka "New Look"), in 1947. The shape was very feminine: large bust, small waist, and full skirt. After the war a dramatic change was needed, and the new silhouette became popular very quickly.
The epitome of New Look: Carrie Bradshaw

I love SJP in the blue dress.
Nice to hear about that era again.
id never asosiated those carrie looks with dior's 'new look' but i now see the similarities
good post
i miss sex and the city, i think i will have to have a marathon soon. i love the second look from christian dior, the waist is insane!
I always admired Carrie's ability to pull off almost anything. I think it's because she has such a good figure.
Astute observation - you selected perfect photos to prove the point! The cult of Carrie is responsible for forging the way on the comeback of this trend.
I find the New Look somewhat overrated. Sure, it was very important for fashion then and still is. But it doesn't have that allure that for me is essential.. I don't really see the appeal, same with - say - Audrey Hepburn. After a certain amount of magazine articles all saying the same thing it just kind of washes out.
joooooo...mencanta cómo le queda el rojo de lunares.......mmmm...y ahora q lo pienso..estos tb son muy para tallacuarenta nooo??
muak!
Hey, would you do me the favor and link my blog?
That polka dot outfit that Carrie wore in Paris is one of my all time favorite Bradshaw outfits. Great post!
