I am aware this blog revolves around fashion and what I am about to write could be considered out of topic. But given the current climate and being a quasi-economist I can't keep my mouth shut.

I want to start by making something clear: it's a shame what the financial sector is doing to the global economy. I believe, at this point, it is pretty clear the crisis started with the subprime mortgages. At that moment, the goverments of the world's leading nations were forced to rescue the banks in order to prevent the collapse of the economy. As stated by the sociologist Nicholas Taleb: "We have managed to combine the worst of capitalism and socialism, by socializing losses and privatizing profits. " But it was necessary, we had no choice. However, from that moment on we all thought those goverments will put a curb to speculative practices. How wrong we were!

Right now, if we look at the problem from a European perspective, we see that after the governments went into debt to rescue the financial sector, the said sector wants to speculate on Euro based on that debt (!) Well, how do they want to do that? By sinking Greece (they would do the same to Spain or Portugal, or even the UK, given the chance). And then I wonder, are the Greek workers guilty of the greed of some and the incompetence of others? No, they aren't. The world is so unfair. But this is the society we have. Now we must ask ourselves what kind of society we want and what we are going to do to change it.

Soy consciente de que la temática principal de este blog gira en torno a la moda y que lo que voy a contar ahora se desvía mucho del tema. Pero teniendo en cuenta las circunstancias actuales y mi condición de cuasi-economista no puedo callarme.

Quiero empezar dejando las cosas claras desde el principio: me parece una auténtica vergüenza lo que está haciendo el sector financiero con la economía mundial. Creo que todos tenemos bastante claro a estas alturas que la crisis empezó con las hipotecas subprime y que los gobiernos de las principales naciones del mundo acudieron al rescate de los bancos para evitar el hundimiento de la economía. Como bien dice el sociólogo Nicholas Taleb, "se combinó lo peor del capitalismo y lo peor del socialismo: socializar las pérdidas y privatizar los beneficios". Pero no hay que olvidar que era necesario, no había alternativa. Sin embargo, a partir de ese momento todos dábamos por hecho que se pondría freno a las prácticas especulativas. ¡Cuánto nos equivocábamos!

Si avanzamos en el tiempo hasta el presente y vemos el problema desde la perspectiva europea, nos encontramos con que después de que los gobiernos se endeudasen para rescatar al sector financiero, ahora ese mismo sector pretende especular con el euro en base a esa deuda(!) ¿Cómo? Muy fácil, hundiendo a Grecia (no dudarían en llevarse a España o Portugal , o incluso Reino Unido, por delante si tuvieran la oportunidad). Y yo me pregunto, ¿qué culpa tienen los trabajadores griegos de la codicia de unos y de la ineptud de otros? Ninguna, el mundo es así de injusto. Esta es la sociedad que tenemos. Ahora hay que preguntarse qué sociedad queremos y qué vamos a hacer todos y cada uno de nosotros para cambiarla.

After seven years Lyell is closing. I feel so sad about it because it is for several reasons one of my favourite labels, namely; Emma Fletcher has always remained true to herself giving each and one of her garments a vintage vibe that makes them different, using fine materials such as silk or wool and inspiring me to no end with her lookbooks. The rest of Lyell fans living in New York should know that there is a closeout sale with all styles now 40-60% off.

Después de siete años Lyell cierra. Y me siento muy triste por ello porque es por varias razones una de mis marcas favoritas, a saber; Emma Fletcher siempre se ha mantenido fiel a su estilo dando a todas y cada una de sus prendas un aire vintage que las caracteriza, utiliza para ello materiales nobles como la seda o la lana y además sus lookbooks siempre han sido una gran fuente de inspiración para mí. Al resto de fans de Lyell que esteís por Nueva York, debeís saber que teneís una última oportunidad para comprar su ropa ya que han organizado una liquidación con descuentos del 40-60%.

I recently discovered Avène Thermal spring water and right now I can't imagine my life without it. It is bottled directly from the source thus preserving all its properties. It is recommended for sensitive and irritated skin. I personally use it to improve skin hydration, as the products I use for acne leave my skin very dry. The freshness is felt inmediately and my skin looks better every day. Apart from that it has an affordable price (9€ for a 300 ml. spray.)

Hace poco que descubrí el agua termal de Avéne y ahora ya no me puedo imaginar mi vida sin ella. Es recogida directamente de la fuente y se envasa en un spray, conservando así todas sus propiedades. Está recomendada para pieles sensible o irritadas. Yo personalmente la utilizo para mejorar la hidratación de la piel, ya que los productos que uso para combatir el acné me dejan muy seca. La sensación de frescor es instantánea, y mi piel ha ido mejorando día a día. Además de todo eso, tiene un precio bastante asequible (9€ por un spray de 300 ml.)

Define your style. I find that a difficult question. I used to wear a lot of black, but lately I wear different soft colors. I would say that my style is basic, easy, and unpredictable.

When and why did you become interested in fashion? I became interested in fashion when i was 13 years old. I've always loved clothes, but i started to get more interested in fashion and designers at that time.

Who/what influences your style the most? There's not just one thing, I love to watch fashion shows, people on the street, magazines, movies, fashion from the 70's and 80's, the internet is a big inspitition, vintage shops, and so much more! and there are some people who inspire me like Mary-Kate Olsen, Kate Moss and I love Abbey Lee's style lately!

You'd never be caught in... bright colors! i do wear more colors lately than before, i used to wear lots of black, but i do wear some nude and brown tones now.

You can't live without... my dog, animals are my other passion.

During my stay in London I had the chance to visit the exhibition of the recently deceased, Irving Penn. The show is composed by portraits only, but I think it is worth it.

Durante mi estancia en Londres tuve la oportunidad de visitar la exposición del recientemente desaparecido, Irving Penn. La muestra está compuesta únicamente por retratos, pero igualmente creo que merece la pena.

What's going on...

It's been more than a week since I wrote the previous note explaining the absence of posts for personal reasons. At that moment, I had neither the strenght nor the desire to tell what was going on. However right now, I feel that the most honest thing to do is explain the whole situation. My father is at the hospital and it is serious: he has a brain tumor. I'm not sure what's going to happen and I am a bit scared. I just wanted to let you know that now I'm not in the mood to write about frivolities, but I don't want to close the blog. That is why -also because I find it therapeutic- I will try to keep posting as much as I can.

Hace ya más de una semana de la anterior nota en la que explicaba la ausencia de posts por problemas personales. En aquel momento no tenía ni la fuerza ni las ganas de contar que me estaba pasando. Pero ahora mismo siento que lo más correcto y lo más sincero que puedo hacer es explicar un poco la situación. Mi padre está en el hospital y el asunto es grave: tiene un tumor cerebral. No sé muy bien que va a pasar y estoy un poco asustada. Sólo quería haceros saber que ahora no me apetece mucho escribir sobre frivolidades, aunque tampoco quiero cerrar el blog. Por eso, y porque para mi es casi terapeútico, voy a procurar seguir posteando lo más que me sea posible.
