This post Madelene wrote yesterday reminded me that a few days ago I thought I should list the books I have read this year so far. The truth is I was unable to recall all of them but among the ones down here there is an acceptable level and I recommend-almost-all of them. What were your favorite books this year?

  • The unbearable lightness of being/La insportable levedad del ser - Kundera
  • El Quijote - Cervantes
  • Middlemarch/ Mediados de marzo - George Elliot
  • Ham on rye / Jamón sobre centeno - Bukowski
  • The Grapes of Wrath /Las uvas de la ira - J. Steinbeck
  • Steppenwolf - Hesse
  • A streetcar named desire/ Un tranvía llamado deseo - Tennesse Williams
  • The Catcher in the Rye / El guardián entre el centeno- J. D. Salinger
  • En el café de la juventud perdida* - Modiano
  • Lolita - Nabokov
  • Girlfriend in a coma - Douglas Coupland
  • Norwegian Wood - Murakami
  • Chanel and her world / El siglo de Chanel - Edmonde Charles - Roux
  • The Lover/ El amante - Marguerite Duras
  • White Nights/ Noches blancas- Dostoevsky
* I think this hasn't been translated to English yet. The original title is Dans le café de la jeunesse perdue.

i'm reading Nino Ricci's book "The Origin of Species" (which won the Governor General's award). It's entirely READABLE which is so important, if you know what i mean, not to mention moving and brilliant.

Have you read Franny & Zooey? Such a gorgeous book, and my favorite by Salinger.

Madelene: No, but if you recommend it I will ;)

Book I enjoy most this year Lanark (which is a reread) by Alasdair Gray and City of Night by John Rechy. They are not by very well known authors, but odd and interesting in their own way, so I recommend!

and I'm glad The Lover made the list!

- The Road, Cormac McCarthy (Oh!)
- Bright Shiny Morning, James Frey
- No one belongs here more than you, Miranda July
- La soledad de los números primos, Paolo Giordano

I reread a lot of books this year. The Catcher in the Rye J.DSalinger
Everything is Illuminated, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close -Jonathan Safran Foer
A lot of Vladimir Nabokov
The Jewish Messiah -Arnon Grunberg
Special Topics in Calamity Physics -Marisha Pessl
Harry Potter(6&7)
Franny and Zoeey -J.D. Salinger
The Curiouse case of Benjamin Button and six other stories, The Great Gatsby- F. Scott Fitzgerald The Picture of Dorian Gray -Oscar Wilde
I'm currently rereading The Shadow of the Wind. I'm sure I forgot a lot of books but these came first to my mind. I haven't read a lot the last few months... I want to start reading much more again since I love it so much! But I'm afraid that I will have to start reading the dull books I need to finish for school:(
