Com(m)e and stay with me

commedesgarconsforhm6zi6

If I were to name a few of my favourite labels, Comme des Garçons would be -without a doubt- one of them. Traumatic experiences (aka several articles missed on e-bay) made me lost faith in owning a Rei Kawakubo's design.

So, as you can imagine, I received the collaboration with H&M as great news. The whole line screams CdG: polka dots galore, black, deconstruction...

On the other hand, many people are complaining because CdG is suppossed to be a non-commercial brand, and this collaboration is regarded as a big marketing maneuver. What are your thoughts on this?

it's definitely fun. As far as commercial vs non-commercial, does it really matter? no. It's affordable and why shouldn't everyone have a chance to look fabulous?

I was one of the people who were shocked in a bad way about this collaboration due to my love for CdG. But seems I'll have to take my words back because I'd give anything to own any of these.
I don't hold much hopes of getting them in London though, half the city will be there queueing :(

El abrigo y las chaquetas en general son un verdadero must de la marca. Me encanta como superponen los polka dots

yeah i can't say i'm thrilled about the hair...but the clothes look great! i don't think there's anything wrong w/ cdg going more commercial if it means that poor people like me will be able to wear their clothes :]

It seems like everyone will be collaborating with H&M soon. Even though CdG is supposed to be a non-commercial brand, aren't all brands commercial in one way or another? Every brands intentention is to sell their clothes, and I think that CdG are making a good choice by working with H&M so that more people can afford their clothes!

Nice post xxx

I'm excited to see these pieces in person. People should be glad their favorite line is doing well, the regular line shouldn't change.

I adore the dark blue coat!
I definitely want it, but i am not going to be one pf the hysterical women out there on the day it launches... ;)

I think it's their choice to go commercial like this, but i can imagine true fans of the label are a little disappointed. However, i really like the collaberation (i can't write anymore..)

Love, Mila.

Being consistently broke, I love the idea of the collaboration. It gives those who are not familiar with the label a little taste (and may even spawn new fans) and it gives those that covet the label another way (and reason) to have an affordable piece they'll surely treasure.

I like.

as a HUGE fan mmyself, i prefer to think of it as a democratic move, where they realize that the label's designs are appreciated by more than just those who can afford them. this is a one-time opportunity to serve those customers.

I think ppl are deluded if they think CdG is 'non-commercial'...the number of perfumes they have, the t-shirt lines, the children lines....the number of collaborations they do.... I think ppl are blinded by the design ethos of Rei which is undoubtedly visionary but they forget that she is a sound business woman as well....

I think its great when high end designers make an affordable line for those who appreciate their clothes. I love it!

CdG is definitely unique. yet stylish, of course.

I guess people are upset because putting CdG clothes in H&M makes it more accessible to the general public, and that seems to go against CdG's image, but... every clothing line is "commercial." I mean, they have to make money somehow, right? So maybe it's that CdG just seems to be less mainstream -- exactly the opposite of H&M.

Personally, I think it's a good idea. If not for people who can't afford CdG clothing normally, at least then for people who may not get a chance to see Kawakubo's clothing in person otherwise. I'm a firm believer that fashion should be accessible to all (mainly in terms of price), so I love the designer collaborations that are all the rage these days, especially because it forces stores to up their design and fabric quality.
