Sweet Heart Crush

In a few issues Lula, and its whimsical and ethereal vibe, has been winning a huge crowd of followers.

Sweet heart crush is one of the editorials featured this month. The stylist, Elisa Nalin, took inspiration from Alber Elbaz and his signature bow-ties. It's been a long time since men inspired clothes surrounds us, but with this season new interpretations, I find this style more and more appealing. Even the idea of investing in a pair of Church's brogues crosses my mind.

Txell Miras

Last Wednesday I was supposed to attend Txell Miras' show, unfortunately I couldn't make my way to Barcelona. But that won't stop me from doing a small review.

Txell Miras called this collection "El gran déjà vu", alluding the fast pace of fashion these days. An open critic to the constant revisitation of the past. For that reason, she will only do winter collections in the future.

The first and biggest part of the show included her quintessential black pieces. She played, once again, with volumes, layers and garment construction, adding distinctive touches through colour and the use of new materials like distressed leather or glossy fabrics.

The final part was done in an earth colour palette, with touches of light blue and black. A recital of exquisitely executed men inspired pieces.

My favourite

I am taking a few days off. I'll be back with posts on Friday.

Diamonds are a girl's best friend?

If you followed Sex and the City, you might remember that in the last two seasons Pat Field put an extra effort to make Carrie look incredibly stylish all the time. We knew it was surrealistic for a woman whose only income was a newspaper salary, to own various Kelly bags, diamond necklaces and hundreds of designers shoes. But it was all the same, because we enjoyed seeing her looking fab. So, when I saw the fantastic Tom Binns Dumont* collection the first image that came to mind was Carrie wearing a diamond necklace with a simple grey t-shirt.

Tom Binns was the winner of a CFDA award in 2006 and he's also famous for collaborating with Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren with "Punk Couture".

If like me, you are broke and you still like this kind of necklaces, search for rhinestone on e-bay and you'll find nice alternatives for a mere $2,99.

*The Dumont collection is made with crystals not diamonds.

Jerome Dreyfuss

I used to be truly obsessed with bags a few years ago. I confess: I coveted almost every It bag. But that's over know, fashion is far more interesting than those and useful objects.

However, sometimes my heart still beats fast when I spot a good purse. That is the case of this Jerome Dreyfuss creation. The leather seems so soft, and the colour is simply perfect. Not to mention the big size to carry all the unnecessary things I don't need.

The best of Dreyfuss' bags is the production techniques respect the enviroment and ethical manufacturing conditions.

Gingham

I don't know why but I feel nostalgic for gingham. It's a fun fabric, very versatile and fresh, just perfect for summer. In pants, dresses or skirts, it's all the same; gingham is the fabric to wear this season.

To Alexander McQueen

Thank you for remembering me fashion should be a refuge for dreams, not mere clothes. I feel grateful to you for returning my faith, for being capable of telling a story, for using your talent to make us scape from the cruel world. You got me down on my knees.

Sabrina Dehoff

The Berlin based designer Sabrina Dehoff makes fun and wearable jewellery for the everyday. Sabrina studied fashion womenswear at the royal collage of art in London, and worked for Lanvin and Guy Laroche. However, in 2005 she took the plunge and started her own jewellery label.

Is not only the pieces what I love, but also the way they are presented. Great photos joined with great words by people like Emily Dickinson or Yeats.

Oops, he did it again!

After last season's collection I felt a bit disappointed with Nicolas Ghesquière. Even though, I must confess, some pieces finally grow on me.

This time, the French designer amends his faults with a thoughtful collection, that follows the line he's been drawing since his entry in the Spanish house. Futurism and great tailoring sum up Balenciaga's project for next fall/winter.

Enjoy

Pssss: pointed stilettos are definitely back. God's word.

Chapter 7:Eat your Chiffon

Yesterday I received an e-mail encouraging me to see "Chapter 7: Eat your Chiffon" an interesting project featuring influent people in fashion, such as Zandra Rhodes or Marios Schwab.

"On Friday the 30th of November, the first of a series of online dinner party art films took place in Zandra Rhodes’ penthouse. Featuring Zandra herself, the dinner party discussion was led by Natt Weller, son of Paul Weller and included guests such as Marios Schwab, artist Andrew Logan, Bishi and Piers Atkinson (Daily Rubbish) amongst others.

Produced by Glass Loves, ‘Chapter 7: Eat Your Chiffon’ was shot by up and coming Photographer & Film Maker Ben Charles Edwards who ‘knows how to turn everyday scenarios into warped cartoon fantasy-lands on film.’ - Jodie Harsh.

Inspired by ‘Eat Your Make Up’ and Chapter 7 of ‘Alice in Wonderland’, the film has managed to capture raw discussion amongst the iconic guests whilst visually acting as an online art installation."

Rose la biche

Etsy is for me, a vast new world I've yet to discover. Flipping through its pages is an exciting experience, because you don't know what kind of gem it will bring you.

One of my favourite labels at Etsy, is Rose la biche created by a French girl based in San Francisco. The leitmotiv is clear: nature meets urbanism. Pieces to wear in the city, inspired by nature.

The line is mainly composed by a limited collection of customized t-shirts. A great alternative of basics who will help you to stay chic in the everyday.

Finals are over at last, and from now on I will be publishing at a normal pace.

Tailored pants

Tailored pants seemed a mere revival last spring, but this season they come stronger than ever. Follow the fashion experts and invest in a high-waisted pair with darts.

Pull them of well is a total challenge; the key this time is to play with proportions. They look their best with skinny belts, tanks and a good pair of heels or jazz shoes.

Best buys of 2007

In a recent post, the cherry blossom girl, talked about her best buys of 2007. As I regret not showing more about my style here, I thought this would be a great idea to start with.

If you read this blog frequently, you might remember, last year I had the intention of purchasing a basic wardrobe. So following that rule, I mostly invested my money in essential pieces.

Vintage Amore LBD, Marc by Marc Jacobs cabas and roman sandals.

Cashmere cardigan, APC white chambray dress, high-heel sandals and Chanel 2.55.

Chloë for Opening Ceremony

Opening Ceremony has finally unveiled the complete collection designed by Chloë Sevigny. The line is composed of forty pieces in a price range that goes from $150 to $500 for a jacket. Let's face it, it's way expensive. I can understand that the original liberty prints are not cheap, but $365 for a chambray dress is way too much.

Apart from that, I'm in love with the collection. Inspired by her own wardrobe at junior school, the line is full of liberty prints, gingham(I'm currently obsessed with it), tough wedges, leopard print and high-waisted trousers and skirts.

If you have some money left to splurge on one of this beautiful pieces, they are available at Opening Ceremony, Barneys, Colette and Dover Street Market.

Dream

Most people have a dream garment. A perfect piece that seems impossible to find. Mine is a pair of ruby slippers ala Dorothy.

I'd lost all hope of finding a decent pair, when the other day internet gave me the answer: a site to create your own ruby shoes. Dissapointment came soon; they charge you for the instructions. Truth to be told, the amount is rather ridiculous, but I still believe the internet should be a place where everybody share their knowledge for free.

The search continues.

The lake & stars

Refinery29 is one of my favourite fashion-related webs: it's fresh, full of news, and always supporting emerging and indie designers. These days, a section called The countdown, features videos of 5 designers and the atmospheres of their studios just before fashion week.

Nikki Dekker and Maayan Zilberman are the designers behind The Lake & stars, one of the brands Refinery29 covered this time.

The label is named after a Victorian term for a woman who is skilled in the bedroom. The pieces are all about details and comfort. Many lingerie houses design beautiful underwear, but forget being practical.

The great thing about The lake & stars is the use of cotton-silk, mixed with other fabrics such as jacquard or PVC. That makes the pieces wearable, yet sexy and feminine.

On a completely different note, thanks to everybody who vote this blog for the fashion bloggers awards. It's such an honour seeing my work valued.
