"Images à la sauvette"

From now on Sundays will be devoted to photography. I'll start with Henri Cartier-Bresson, the great among the greatest.

His pictures are not only visually appealing, but they also communicate something. There's always a message behind them. His work reflects the social reality of the places he visited transforming it into an invaluable document and himself into the father of photojournalism.

Heroes: Ingrid Thulin

Probably the most beautiful face my eyes have ever seen.

A quick note to let you note I am moving Heroes to Fridays. For Sundays I am preparing another section but I am afraid you'll have to wait because I want it to be a surprise.

CRUBA

CRUBA 2

One of my favourite materials is, without a doubt, cashmere. I like it a lot because apart from being warm it is also super soft and comfortable. So I couldn't help but rejoice when I heard Cruba revolves around this fabric. Mira Becker, the designer behind the label, says "cashmere is often treated unfairly -many only think of knit. I wanted my collection to express the lightness and movement that characterizes this fine material." And she succeeded thanks to the attention she paid to tailoring. A true delight.

Pea Coat

pea coat

After a long long search for a pea coat that suited my needs I finally found one that I just love. Lesson learned: sometimes the wait is worth it.

MACHA

macha jewelry

There is a sort of unwritten rule in matters of style that says accessories can make or ruin a look. Jewels play an important role in all this because they add a personal and unique touch, especially if linked to memories. That's why I like the jewelry Bernice makes under the name of Macha so much. The designer herself confesses "I love to make each piece feel like it has a sense of history. Inspiration comes in some many ways, but I guess old things inspire me a lot. I spend a lot of time in antique stores wondering where everything came from."

Everything is handmade by Bernice herself who "love the idea that each piece has a human connection and is therefore not perfect." Her jewels are a balance between rough and delicate, "I love to make modern things feel old. That contrast can represent so many things, old vs. new, rich vs. poor, organic vs. geometric, so it inspires many shapes."

As a last confession the designer points "I love to see yellow gold with black diamonds, this reminds me of my mother's engagement ring, with that classic 60's-70's vibe. That's the kind of thing I like to wear myself."

Alexander the great.

amcq

I've just known Alexander McQueen has
passed away and I'm in shock. I can't believe it, I truly don't. One of the greatest is gone when he still had so much to offer. But we'll always have his legacy: audacious, immeasurable and unique.

Heroes: Chet Baker

I recently saw Let's get lost and I fell in love with the charisma of Chet Baker, with his many virtues and his many flaws. In the end, we're all humans and have the right to be imperfect.

REN

REN

Sometimes I realize I don't talk enough about beauty on this blog, which is weird because the subject interests me. To amend my mistakes I am going to talk about REN. I was introduced to it by Vanessa Traina who named it among her favourites skincare brands in an interview for Vogue Paris. After reading several positive reviews I decided to give it a try and I ordered their purifying clay mask and so far so good. It leaves my skin smoother and since I use it I have less blackheads. I haven't tried more REN products so if you have a previous experience share it, please.

Vivier

la tropézienne

Don't be fooled by the title; this post is not about Roger Vivier, I am going to talk about Clare Vivier, a french journalist who started to design her bags as a result of being unable to find anything that suited her needs. Her top priorities are quality and simplicity, which turns her products into classic, timeless objects.
